Boys over Recession (Boys over Flowers)

INTRODUCTION

The following blog will show the efforts we had made in the making of our role play. The role play served as our Midterm Exam so we really had to do our best for it. Well, we did not only made our best just because the grade was at stake, but because we had so much fun during planning that we decided to make it, well, as what Mr. J commented, "Entertaining". To those who haven't seen the actual role play, read along, watch our video and you might just as well be entertained. And to those who have already seen the actual role play, just read along and you might as well be entertained again. And to Mr. J, read along, be entertained again, and you might as well just give us a higher grade. Just kidding sir :D

Contents of the following blog will be the Planning & Practice, Brief Discussion of Recession, Story of Role Play, and some videos and pictures of our group.

Planning and Practicing

"Keep quiet or you will get picked"

During this stage, well, as to our description, we really had no idea what to do. The first meeting was at the classroom. Everyone was so quiet. Nobody really wants to speak because, obviously, if someone does, he/she will immediately become the leader. But at the end of the keep-silent-so-you-won't-get-picked moment, Benzloise MARIA Lim Sambrano broke the silence because Mr. J was already calling for leaders. Benz asked who will be the leader, which in fact was the biggest mistake for him, and the most relief for the rest. Since he was the one who first spoke, everybody assumed he cared so much for the group and that he had the guts for it, he will make a great leader for us. The Documenter, the Synthesizer, and the Secretary was not yet decided because obviously nobody really wants to shoulder such heavy tasks. :D

"Facebook Planning, Gazeebo Meetings, and Everything"

Most of our meetings were actually in facebook chat. We decide what to do, how to do it, when we will do it, and where to do it. "It" means, of course, about our role play. :] The following are the announcements made by our team leader Maria, and the conversations we made. Other things we made during the actual meeting will also be stated.

            Members present:
            Gayol, Gale
            Potolin, Lyle
            Te, Dave
            Gaviola, Jereme
            Lee, Chong Yong
            Osorio, Sushmita
            Sambrano, Benz
            dela Rosa, Rheavic

Agenda: To appoint the secretary, documenter, and synthesizer.

Benz - came late... explained each of the roles stated above... asked who can take part on a specific role stated above... asked the group to view the mechanics and guide for the role playing in Sir Daigdigan's blog... appointed Rheavic dela Rosa to be the secretary for the group... set another meeting for tomorrow August 24, 2011 (Wednesday) - 3:40 p.m. Gazebo area to talk about the concept for the role playing of the group

Dave - volunteered to be the documenter for the group... been told to inform us if ever he couldn't bring a camera for the documentation of every meeting and for the actual role playing... left meeting early to eat lunch

Gale - "volunteered" to help in communicating the Smart Subscribers of the group

Rheavic dela Rosa - checked the attendance of the members present during the meeting

Notes: still have to appoint the synthesizer for the group or one who could be the head of the said role and the whole group could help out... if possible, all members of the group will be present next meeting to make a concept for the activity

Nothing else was further discussed after the meeting.

Secretary Rheavic dela Rosa! mao ni imong report! :D

Note: We apologize for replacing our contact numbers with [--] in the above conversation. We just really can't afford having our fans and stalkers contact us. It will be a big nuisance in our part, and it might affect our studies, especially in economics. JK :D
After our 30 min. meeting in the Gazeebo,  thank God we already had our Secretary, Rheavic Dela Rosa, and our Documenter Christian Dave Te. During that meeting, we were still brainstorming about our role play. Although nothing particular had came up, but in the sense that we were thinking about it, we already made a start for it. When we had our meeting the next day, we continued to brainstorm. Since nothing really came up, and there will be no class on August 29, 2011, we decided to make everything we are needed to do at that day.

        • Since our conversations at facebook was already too long, I already made cuts to it, and just posted the announcements by team leader Maria. One thing we gained from our facebook meetings is that, as a group, we became slightly comfortable with each other thus an advantage in making our role play.

          • _________________________________________________

            • As you can see, everything is already stated in our team leader Maria's announcement. We not only had fun at our group mate Jonathan's place, but also at Mic1. Not all of us were present, but one good outcome from that meeting is that we already had a concept. It wasn't really a productive meeting but we had made ourselves familiar and comfortable with each other, it can somehow be considered as a help to our group. Here are some pictures during our meeting.

              (At Jonathan's Place)
(Chuy dictionary ni Stan <3. LOL)

(At Mang Inasal having lunch where everybody had unlimited rice)

The script was actually started and completed four days before the presentation. We had another meeting at Jonathan's place last September 3, 2011. In the morning, since other members were still attending NSTP classes, members who came early made the script. The whole morning was dedicated at finishing the script. In the afternoon, where we were already complete, we had our practice. During those practice, we had made a lot of adjustments and additions from the previously made script. There were a lot of funny jokes, and yet we decided we will not include all of them because it might come out corny. Although it was not the most decent practice, at least we already had an idea what we will do during the role play.

              BRIEF DISCUSSION OF RECESSION

Recession. What do you understand with recession?  According to Wikipedia, Recession is a business cycle contraction, and a general slowdown of the economic activity. If there is Recession many houses will be foreclosed because people who availed it could no longer pay for it, bankruptcy in many business firms, large amount of unemployment, and low stock prices.

              Role Play

"THE Role Play" (Tentenen Tetetentenenen Tentenen! *background music sa 21st Century movie clip*)

This is it! This is really is it! The moment we have been cramming for. After 2 attempts of having a practice for polishing our role play which those 2 attempts had unfortunately failed, the day of the role play had come. Some of us were prepared, some of us were not.

In our role play, we decided we would show how Recession would affect people in the economy. These are the characters:

Gale Gayol as Geum Jan Di
Chong Yong "Stan" Lee as Gu Jun Pyo
Paul Rico Limbago as Yoon Ji Hoo
Jereme Gaviola as So Ying Jung
Benz Sambrano as Song Woo Bin

              Extras will be:

Rheavic dela Rosa - car seller
Ryan Escobia - Driver/Street food vendor
              Sushmita Osorio - Realtor
              Lyle Potolin - Flower vendor

              Technical Crew:

              Jose Lim IV
              Jonathan Apura

There were 4 suitors of Jandi(Gale) in the role play. The first scene shows how people deal with things when there is no Recession.

Ji Hoo(Paul) went to make a deal with a car agent(Rheavic). He went to decide what car he will give to Jandi as a gift. Because he had a stable job and that he was cindifent that he could pay for the car even for monthly, he took the car at the price of 90,000 pesos monthly for 12 months. After making the deal, he immediately went at Jandi's place to surprise her with the car keys she will soon own.

Ying Jung(Jereme) went to buy flowers for Jandi. His job is a man whore. He works in the man whore organization of Woon Bin(Benz). When he was about to buy flowers for Jandi, the flower vendor(Lyle) insulted him telling him he has no money. Because there was no recession, and that many are still hiring him, he had a lot of money. He then paid the vendor for all the flowers including the vendor's wage for the day. After that, he went at Jandi's place. Gave her all the flowers he bought from the vendor and entertained her. Since he was courting her, entertainment fee was for free.

Woo Bin(Benz) is the owner of the man whore organization which was already mentioned above. Because there was no Recession, his business was quite huge. There were many people coming at his club, and he has many clients. He assigned his driver(ryan) to fetch Jandi with his 4x4 crosswind XUV. He treated Jandi in a date to Paris. When they went back to Philippines, he gave Jandi another gift. A rolex worth more than what you can imagine.

Jun Pyo(Stan) is the richest of the 4. He was so rich, he planned to give Jandi a mansion. To realize that plan, he went to a real estate office. He made a deal with a real estate agent(Sushmita). He would pay the mansion 350,000 pesos monthly for 12 months. After making that deal, he called Jandi to come to that house to surprise her. He asked her to help him decorate the house. But when Jandi came, the house was already well decorated, and then he gave her the keys.

After several months, there came Recession. Following scenes will show how Recession will affect people.

The car agent called Ji Hoo to confirm whether he received the notice sent about the car. Because of the Recession, Ji Hoo lost his job and was no longer able to pay the monthly bill for the car. He had missed 4 months, and as a company policy, the car will be repossessed. He tried to negotiate but was not able to succeed. He then went to Jandi's place to ask the car back. As a suitor, where you already gave the car, would you have the guts to take it back? Hell no! That will be very embarrassing. But because he really had no choice, he has got to do what he has got to do. Although Jandi was hesitant at giving it back, she also had no choice but to really give it back.

Ying Jung, during the Recession, was fired at his work. Although he could work alone without an organization, he still went bankrupt because nobody really had enough money to pay for unnecessary things like hiring a man whore. Although bankrupt, he still went to buy flowers for Jandi. Realizing he had not enough money, he just bought the cheapest one in the market which is a santan. When he went at Jandi's place, he gave her the flower and danced to her. After he danced, he asked Jandi for money as a payment for the entertainment. Seriously, as a suitor, would you really have the guts to ask for money to the person you are courting? But because of the recession, he had no choice but to do what he has got to do.

Woo Bin went bankrupt in his business. Because there were no longer people coming at his club, and there were no more clients because they were no longer able to pay for what they usually pay, he closed his club and his employees at that time were all jobless. Although bankrupt, he still went to court Jandi. He told his driver to fetch Jandi with his new crosswind. Because he already had no money, he sold his 4x4 crosswind XUV, and bought a secondhand crosswind trisikad. Where the wind will really cross across your face. LOL. He told Jandi that they will have a date at Mkdo. The previously grand Paris date now became a cheap Mkdo date. When Jandi came at Mkdo, she was shocked why Woo Bin was buying fish ball in the street food stand outside Mcdo. Woo Bin then mentioned what he meant with Mkdo is really "Mkdokodoko". If you ask a girl to a date, would you really have the guts to take her to a street food corner? Do you think the girl would like that especially when you already took her to a much more grand date? Jandi was disappointed because the date was cheap. She then reasoned that she has to go home due to stomachache.

Jun Pyo, also went bankrupt. He was not able to pay for 3 months, and that the Realtor called to warn him that they will repossess the house. Jun Pyo tried to negotiate but was not able to succeed. He called Jandi, and asked for the house back. As a guy, would you really have the guts to take what you already gave? Especially when it's a mansion, and the girl had already made herself feel at home. That would be very embarrassing. Jandi had no choice but to give it back.

At the end of the day, Jandi, and her 2 friends, Rheavic and Sushmita went to a date. Jandi, the gold digger, was complaining that because of the recession, it had affected not only her suitors but also her status in living. The car she got, the grand flowers and entertainment she always received for free, the luxurious car and private jet she used to ride to have a date in other countries, and the mansion she received were all taken back.

              THE EXPERIENCE(An addition ^_^)

During practice, well, it was the most fun part in the whole process of completing the role play. During the first meeting at Jonathan's place, where we planned to make the concept as well as the script for the role play, and ended up just making the concept. As a member of the group, I really thought nothing good will come up because most of the things the group did was just talk, joke, joke, talk, and talk about other stuff. But at the end of the day, because I think the boys were already tired of making jokes that the concept for our role play just came out. Just like that. So, basically, it was a relief. After deciding that it was time for us to end the meeting, we decided to celebrate. It was quite funny because we spent almost an hour figuring out where to go, and what to do to celebrate. By then, we went to Mic1, sang, and drank.

Also there was this one time when 10 of us managed to fit in Rico Limbago's car. It was quite a small car so managing to fit the 10 of us was a world record. JK. It happened during the last practice of the group. Because we were all done of everything we were needed to do, we decided to celebrate. Rico sat at the driver's seat, of course who else would be. The three girls of the group sat at the front seat, imagine that! and the 5 boys on the other hand sat at the backseat. Although the air condition was turned on, heat inside the car was truly felt. Even Dave made a joke that it was "bouncy"(bawnsi) in there. As in, bawnsingot. LOL. We went at Mic1, sang, and drank. It was by then we knew who among us were the good singers of the group. And judging by our scores, where most of us got 97, only Rheavic had the score of 98 singing . So, obviously, she has the greatest voice among us. And it was that time where we found out that Lyle is prohibited in drinking beer because he has a curse seal. We searched it in the internet and found out it mostly occur in Asians. And they will only be able to drink alcohol if it was a whiskey, or vodka. So, basically, Lyle has a very "sosyal" skin.

During the actual role play, some of the scenes were not really scripted, like seriously they were not part of everything we have planned. An example was the first part where the boys danced. Well, during meetings, they had plans that they would dance but the giving of crepe paper flowers,  choreography, and everything made during that dance, they were all never discussed. It was actually amazing because the boys looked like they really had enough time for the practice. I would like to especially recognize Stan for his "kuyaw" dance moves. During practice, he once showed us some of his moves. It was really amazing. And it was even more amazing during the role play. Another thing was when Wu Bin kissed Jandi's hand. Never it was mentioned during meetings, so basically it was quite shocking. All in all, if the teacher was entertained, we could say that even us, as the performers, were entertained of what we did. Because of that role play, we gained new friends, and really got along with each other very well since most of us in the group are irregular students. And since most of us were approachable people.

Before ending this blog, we would like to share the short announcement made by our team leader Maria in facebook chat after the performance of our role play.  This will show how much team work and team spirit we had. :D
